Goblin Valley

Over the weekend Jake and I had quite the adventure! We had our bags packed and ready to head out to San Francisco after Jake got off of work on Friday and unfortunately, we ran into a slight problem. Our plane tickets were buddy passes, so we had to fly stand by. The flights ended up being full, so we weren't able to get on and make it out there. Even though we were disappointed we were prepared with a back up plan in case this happened so...we re-packed our bags for Goblin Valley!

We left Saturday morning SUPER early....Jake surprised me by having the truck all packed up when I woke up! All I had to do was roll out of bed and get in the car...which I literally did. We left around 5:30 am! After driving for a while we stopped for breakfast in Price. There is absolutely NOTHING in Price. It might be the grossest city in Utah!

We were so excited once we finally made it to Goblin Valley. I had never been there before and had no idea what to expect. Our camping area was on the other side of the valley so we went there first and TRIED to get our camp set up. The wind was seriously out of control!! I'm sure if anyone was watching us try to put up the tent they would have peed their pants laughing at us. There was one point where we were each holding a pole on either side, the wind came and completely inflated out eight man tent (we borrowed this tent from my roommate and had no idea how massive it was until we were trying to put it up!) and almost took flight with us holding on! After that happened we gave up on trying to put it together and decided to just head down to the valley. This is a picture of the "Goblin Guardians." They sit right before the entrance to the valley.

Once we got down into the valley I was amazed. This is the craziest looking place I have ever seen!! There were thousands of formations everywhere. They all look like they have faces on them, hence the name Goblin Valley. They also filmed Galaxy Quest here. These pictures do not do this place justice.

Once we got down into the valley we went on a really intense rock climb to the top of one of the buttes. This summer we plan on taking a rock climbing course so that we can climb different places around Utah. The view from the top was gorgeous. We were only able to take it in for a couple of minutes before the wind kicked in and almost knocked us off.

Once we hiked down and got back to our campsite, we had had enough of the wind. It was still early in the evening so we decided to pack up and head home instead of being miserable all night after such an amazing day. So we loaded up and started heading home. Once we got back to Price it had started to snow. We reached the entrance to the canyon and found out it was closed so we ended up getting stuck in Price! After trying a couple of hotels we finally found one that wasn't too disgusting and had some open rooms. It was so nice to just be able to relax after our climb. We were both exhausted!! The canyon was open in the morning so we were able to make it home finally!

I could not have hoped for a better weekend. It was perfect! Even though we didn't make it to San Fran, we had so much fun we couldn't stop talking about it the whole way home! And we just bought tickets to San Francisco so we're headed there in a couple of weeks with out having to worry if we'll get on a flight!!

Thanks babe for such a great weekend! I love you!!
